You may remember the adorable Hall family who were the winners of our Unfrozen Winner contest earlier this year. They won by submitting this precious snowman photo:
Mountainwest Service Experts sent the family on a Disney Cruise and provided airfare for four. Bradley and Rebecca took their two oldest youngsters, Korbin and Brooke, on their Disney Cruise during mid-summer. This was Korbin and Brooke’s first cruise and Rebecca and Bradley had not been on a cruise in nearly 10 years.
“I can’t begin to explain how much fun we had and how seriously magnificent everything was,” wrote Rebecca. “It was a trip we could have never done on our own. Disney does cruising right!”
The Halls were sweet enough to send over their itinerary and some pictures from their awesome trip. If you want to a Disney Cruise, or just looking to see what it’s all about, read on to see the highlights from the Hall’s cruise.
We sailed for a couple days (Saturday and Sunday) and then docked in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. We booked a Catamaran and went out with 4 other families for several hours. It was my children’s first time snorkeling and they were in heaven. We spotted turtles and stingrays – it may have been the coolest experience of the whole cruise!
We traveled from Tortola to St. Thomas in the American Virgin Islands, where we got to snorkel even more, swam, and hung out on the beach. The water was truly that turquoise blue that you see in movies – truly beautiful.
We sailed all day Wednesday and then got off at Castaway Cay, Disney’s Cruise Line Guest-Only Island. The water was incredibly blue and had perfect visibility below, so of course - more snorkeling! They hid Mickey Mouses you could hunt for underwater, which was nice because there weren’t as many fish. They also have an adults-only beach which we took advantage of while Korbin and Brooke played basketball, pool, and shuffleboard. The island had employees everywhere to watch the kids so we (Rebecca and Bradley) laid out and had a daiquiri. It was just like a floating Disneyland!
I (Rebecca) get goosebumps reminiscing about everything on the ship – it was all so fun and amazing! The cruise has a “Midship Detective Agency” where you pick the mystery you want to solve and Disney gives you a card so you can keep track of all your clues. When you place the card up to a painting, it actually springs to life – it speaks to the group, tells you about the mystery you are trying to solve, and gives you clues and directions. One mystery took us two hours because we were running all over the cruise ship.
They are always playing first-run movies out by the pool so we got to watch Jungle Book. We also got to ride the Aqua Duct, which is a large slide that takes you up and down and swings you out over the boat!
We went Goofy Golfing and the cruise also has other games and a Tween Club called Edge with activities like scavenger hunts, ice breakers, and more.
It’s very easy to see characters on the boat – you only have to wait a few minutes versus 30 minutes or more at Disneyland. We got to see about two a day, and one day we met five in a row! They also have multiple versions of the characters, like Captain Mickey, Traditional Mickey, etc.
The stateroom was amazing! We had an ocean view room with a
really big porthole and window seat. The stateroom was a really good size and all four of us were cozy and never felt smushed.
You alternate three restaurants. Enchanted Garden has cool flower lights on the ceiling that open and close and the colors on the ceiling change throughout your meal and Royal Court was really elegant and put me in mind of Cinderella. The food is very gourmet and they have a good medley. My oldest tried everything, even the escargot at the Royal Court. (He told us it tasted like dirt!)
Animators Palette is animation-themed and they give you markers on your table so you can illustrate a figure. They provide directions on how to draw a figure, then they collect the drawings and at the end of your meal, they animate your drawings on the wall. It’s completely unexpected! They put them to music and put them in Disney films. My daughter is our artist so she put a lot of effort into hers and was ecstatic – the rest of us weren’t quite as accomplished
“Our family can’t thank Service Experts enough for this incredible vacation,” Rebecca wrote after they returned from their cruise. “I get emotional when I think about the whole experience. Submitting an entry I never thought would go anywhere, hearing we were a finalist, the stressful voting round, the big announcement, planning and choosing which cruise, the anticipation of going and finally experiencing an incredible trip. It was such a wonderful time living it all. We are forever grateful!”
